At Glen Lake Family Dentistry, preventive dentistry is always our top priority. Dr. Alex Scott and Dr. Greg Olson want to stop problems like cavities and gum disease before they happen, and keep your mouth healthy. Contact us now for a checkup, and get the care you need to maintain a bright smile and a healthy mouth.
Six-month teeth cleanings are an essential part of preventive dentistry. One of our dental hygienists will gently remove plaque from your teeth, polish them, and floss them to remove any debris or food particles.
Then, Dr. Scott or Dr. Olson will examine your mouth, check for signs of common oral health problems, and make sure that everything looks healthy. With routine checkups, you can catch oral health issues like cavities and gum disease before they become more severe.
We recommend digital x-rays every year for our patients. With our advanced x-ray machine, Dr. Scott and Dr. Olson can take a closer look at your mouth, and check for signs of oral health issues that may not be visible with an oral exam alone.
We offer oral cancer screening as part of every checkup at Glen Lake Family Dentistry. Oral cancer is rare, but its early stages often go undetected unless a dentist in Minnetonka notices it. As part of your appointment, Dr. Scott or Dr. Olson will look for lesions, abnormalities, and other potential signs of oral cancer. This gives you valuable peace of mind. And, in the rare event that we notice something out of the ordinary, you can get help right away.
Dental sealants are usually used on the back teeth, since they're more cavity-prone. Dr. Scott or Dr. Olson will apply a thin layer of liquid resin, which they will harden with a UV light. This creates a strong, transparent barrier on your teeth to help prevent cavities.
We offer fluoride treatments as part of our six-month cleanings and oral exams. In this process, Dr. Scott or Dr. Olson will paint a fluoride-rich liquid onto your teeth, then rinse it away after a few minutes. This helps attract minerals that strengthen your teeth and prevent cavities.
Night guards help with teeth grinding (bruxism). Over time, grinding your teeth can cause premature wear, pain and discomfort, and even jaw issues like TMJ/TMD (temporomandibular joint disorder). With a night guard, you can protect your teeth from bruxism and preserve your smile.
Custom-fitted sports mouthguards help cushion your teeth from impact and injury. They're the best way to prevent damaged teeth, knocked-out teeth, oral tissue lacerations, and lots of other dental injuries.
Gum disease is the #1 cause of tooth loss in adults of all ages. With periodontal maintenance visits, Dr. Scott and Dr. Olson can help you fight back against gum disease, protect your teeth and gums, and improve your oral health.
